I felt it was necessary to have contributions from two spinal consultants. A name I immediately recognised on the Daily Mail’s top 10 list was Stewart Tucker. He had been my spinal consultant and surgeon.
I was signed off in 2015, a year after my surgery and had not spoken to him since I was 15 years old. However, given that I had been his patient, I was personally aware of his level of expertise and the care he provided to my parents and I. He seemed an obvious choice and I wondered if he would remember me?
I emailed his medical secretary and to my surprise I received a personal email from him. He responded that he would be delighted to be a contributor to my project.
It was no surprise that his availability was limited and it took a while to arrange a suitable time. He called me at exactly the time he said he would. He started off the interview by informing me that he was putting my x-rays up in front him – possibly the best way for him to remember me!
He was hugely helpful and generous with his time. I was able to finish the interview with all my questions answered and reflected on my good fortune to have had him as my surgeon.
