Vertebral Body Tethering (VBT) - A different surgical approach [LISTEN]

VBT, along with intensive physiotherapy, is an alternative treatment option that some parents are attracted to. It is a less radical surgical procedure that has not yet been adopted by the NHS. The NHS does not currently believe there is sufficient evidence to support its routine commissioning. Further there is a limited number of cases where it is a potentially viable treatment option. Lee Breakwell, Michael Grevitt and Stewart Tucker remain cautious.

However, there are patients in the UK who are travelling to the United States and Europe to undergo VBT surgery.

Listen to Professor Alanay explain the difference between spinal fusion and VBT.

Listen to Lee Breakwell, a leading spinal consultant share his opinion on VBT.
